Follow up on removing grass fungus organically (three months later…)

Enough time has passed since our April organic gardening episode. The lawn was a point of emphasis during our first episode as we decided adopt a "do-it-yourself" attitude to resolve the lawn fungus issue form last year which had caused so much damage.

The corresponding photographs speak for themselves. These are taken at intervals for each area to track progress. Our approach toward the lawn fungus worked! The lawn is back in great shape. So we are thrilled and pleased as we did it ourselves and with conscious concern for the environment.

The key points we implemented are:

  • Racked the lawn completely twice for aeration, exposure and clean up
  • Soil tested in two locations for guidance on Ph level
  • Reused all leaves, debris and grass cuttings for natural mulch in the beds and lawn
  • Treated with fertilizer containing weed control specific for our local conditions and heavily wooded lot
  • Mower set at highest cut length to allow for better root growth
  • Limiting and controlling water use manually by observing the grass and moisture to determine schedule and coordinating with rains

Overall, our approach is very manageable, more economic, and environmentally conscious; no fungicides polluting our water ways.

Summary

  1. No fungicides
  2. Give the grass what it naturally needs
